Coordinator of the Animation and Games Degree Programme, BCFE
Gwen Fagan joins the education panel at Dingle as a representative of Ballyfermot College of Further Education, Dublin. BCFE launched the Irish School of Animation in the mid 1990s, and recently added a Games Design pathway to its Visual Media degree course. Alumni of the college include an impressive line up of industry leaders and creatives, who have been nominated for, and have won, most major international and national awards in their field, including Oscars, BAFTAs, ANNIEs, EMMYs and IFTAS. The ISA maintains strong ties with industry, and with it’s alumni. These vital associations take shape as panel discussions, technical workshops, and visiting lecture series.
Gwen joined the teaching team at BCFE this year as Programme Leader and Link Coordinator of the BA Visual Media degree course. For the past 8 years, she has taught across many of the programmes in the college, with a focus on Life Drawing, Visual Communications, Professional Practice, Design Process, and Idea Generation.
In 2015, she adjudicated several US based collegiate film competitions.
Teaching is a second career for Gwen, who spent 25 years in the illuminated sign industry, primarily as a neon glass worker and integration designer. Significant commissions included the Smithsonian Institution’s major retrospective show of artist Bruce Nauman, as well as movie sets for Paramount Pictures. Architectural elements included work for the Chicago Limelight, Chicago Opera, and Harpo (Oprah) Studios. Gwen has taught private classes in industry specific glass working, including an experimental workshop specifically developed for the 25th Annual Glass Arts Society Conference.
She has exhibited work in Chicago, and greater-Illinois. Gwen holds a joint BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in Studio Art and Art History.
